Courtney Moore is a social psychologist who studies how people interact with and judge information, including general trivia, conspiracy theories and political claims.Ìý
Professional and Community Activities
Some of Moore's work assesses how individuals come to endorse misinformation and conspiracy theories. She is particularly focused on interventions that decrease one's likelihood of assuming that information is true whenever it seems familiar or aligns with one's prior beliefs. Relatedly, she is interested in identifying factors that contribute to a person leaving conspiracy theories behind, as this could inform interventions to dismantle harmful beliefs.
She is also part of an international collective of researchers interested in the scientific study of intellectual humility. Moore's aim is to test means of increasing intellectual humility, specifically as it relates to judging and discussing political information.
